Philomela is a distinguished female choir famous for its intensive, memorable and spatial musical performances. Philomela commissions new music frequently and works with composers who combine creatively modern and traditional elements in their musical ideas. Philomela, based in Helsinki, has been founded in 1984.
Philomela is dedicated to enthrall its audience in every live performance. Movement is an essential part of Philomela’s performances; we use space and position singer in a new way to create memorable, even unearthly musical experiences for the audience.
Philomela’s unique musical expression has touched hearts all over the world, across language and cultural barriers. The choir has been invited all around Europe and in Japan, Canada, Kenia, China, Cuba, Malesia, Zambia, Singapore, Taiwan and the USA. Philomela has won Championship titles in the World Choir Games in 2014 and European Choir Games in 2013. In 2001, the choir won the Grand Prix prize at The Tampere Vocal Music Festival.
